The game of Touch is played by a team of 14 players, no more than 6 of whom are allowed on the field at any time. Both males and females play the game, and also play together in mixed competition. The object of the game of Touch is for each team to score touchdowns and to prevent the opposition from scoring. The match is forty- (40) minutes duration consisting of two (2) twenty (20) minutes halves. There is a three- (3) minute half-time break.

 



TOUCH


The game of Touch is played by a team of 14 players, no more than 6 of whom are allowed on the field at any time. Both males and females play the game, and also play together in mixed competition.

The object of the game of Touch is for each team to score touchdowns and to prevent the opposition from scoring.

FIELD OF PLAY:
The field of play is rectangular in shape and measures seventy (70) metres in length from scoreline to scoreline and fifty (50) metres in width.

MARKINGS:
Line markings defining the field of play are to be at least 2.5cm in width and are to be laid out a shown in Figure 1. Sidelines are to be extended at least five (5) but no more than ten (10) metres beyond the scorelines and are joined by the touchdown zone lines.

Substitution boxes measuring twenty (20) metres in length by no more than five (5) metres in width shall be marked on both sides of the field of play, extending ten (10) metres either side of the halfway line and one (1) metre from the sideline.

MARKERS:
Suitably sized markers of a distinguishing colour and made from a safe and pliable material are to be positioned at the intersections of the sidelines and scorelines; and at the intersections of the halfway line and the sidelines. Corner markers are to be positioned with the base along the outer edge of the sideline and the centre of the marker in line with the scoreline. See Figure 1 - Field of Play

PLAYING SURFACE:
The playing surface is normally grass. However other surfaces approved by Touch New Zealand may be used. Ground surfaces that may cause injury are to be avoided.

THE BALL:
The match is to be played with an oval, inflated ball of a shape and size approved by Touch New Zealand. The ball shall be inflated to the recommended air pressure. The approved ball size is 36cm long x 55cm circumference.

JUNIOR TOUCH


Junior touch is a modified version of adult Touch with rules, field size, and equipment adapted for children aged approximately from 5-12 years. Contact Touch New Zealand for junior playing surface specifications.
