Pool is played on a pocket billiard table with one white cue ball and fifteen numbered object balls. It can be played by two individuals, pairs, or teams. Points are scored for pocketing designated balls in designated pockets. The first player or side to reach an agreed number of points wins the game.

 
The table

A slate base, covered with green baize. There are six pockets. Table sizes range from 3 1/2ft by 7ft to 5ft by 10ft; the length is always twice the width.

1 foot cushion
2 foot string
3 foot spot
4 centre string
5 centre spot
6 head string
7 head spot
8 head cushion
9 long string
10 side rails
11 pocket
12 cue ball
13 object balls

(Strings are imaginary lines through the spots and parallel to the ends of the table.)

 
Officials

Officials are a referee and a scorekeeper.

 
Scoring

One point is scored for pocketing a designated ball in a designated pocket. An additional one point is scored for every other object ball pocketed in the same stroke. http://www.cue-sports.org.nz
