Field hockey
 

Hockey is a field game played by both men and women. Each team has 11 players, who use a stick with a hook which forms the head to hit the ball along the ground. The object of the game is to send the ball into the opponents' goal, and the team to score the greater number of goals wins.

 
The pitch

The pitch conforms to the measurements shown. The field is rectangular, 100yd long and 60yd wide. The boundaries are clearly marked out with lines.

 
The stick

The stick has a flat face on its left-hand side. The head is made of wood, and must have no metal fittings, sharp edges or splinters. The total weight of the stick must not exceed 28oz nor be less than 12oz. It must nbe narrow enough to pass, inclusive of any covering, through a ring having an interior diameter of 2in.

 
The ball

The ball is traditionally white but a ball of any other colour may be used. it weighs 1 1/2 - 5 3/4oz and has a diameter of 8 13/16 - 9 1/4in. The ball which is hard may be solid or hollow. The ball often has a core of rubber and cork covered with man-made materials such as PVC and Porvair.
