Gymnastics
 

Gymnastics encompasses many forms of human movement and dance. Competitive gymnastics is divided into four separate disciplines: women’s artistic gymnastics and sports acrobatics. Each discipline has its own specific requirements in terms of apparatus, style of performance and judging criteria.

 
Equipment

Men gymnasts compete on the floor, pommel horse, rings, vaulting horse, parallel bars and horizontal bars. Women compete on the vaulting horse, asymmetric bars, beam and floor. Competitors perform compulsory and optional movements on each apparatus. There are separate titles for the team competit-ion, individual combined events competition, and the individual events competitions.

3 Vault
4 Horizontal bar
5 Pommel horse

Women’s apparatus
6 Asymmetric bars
7 Beam
8 Vault

NB: Apparatus is shown without mats for clarity. Matting of the appropriate specification should always be used with all pieces of apparatus.
