Sofcrosse, also known here as Kiwi crosse or Non Contact Lacrosse or Indoor Lacrosse is played on a smaller court approximately the size of a Basketball court.
If played inside the walls can be used as the boundaries to keep the ball in play.
The suggested dimensions for this mini version, which can be played 5 aside – no GK right up to 8 aside including GK are: 30m x 15m but can be as large as 50m – 60 x 30m- 35 when playing outside. The goals are placed from approx 5m in from the back line (use Basketball circles if playing inside) to 10m if playing outside.
An outside field fits nicely across the width of a Hockey field. Netball courts or Tennis courts may also be adapted for use.
Goal size, approx 1.22m x 1.22m are recommended. However, buckets, hoops, cones etc may also be used. The radius of the goal crease (circle) should be approx 2 - 3 m.
Sticks may be of the Sofcrosse variety or any other version – no sticks shorter than 0.9m or longer than 1.22m should be used.
Balls Sofcrosse variety or similar or Indoor soft balls. Players may be mixed or single sex – make up of the teams competing should be similar to allow for fair competition.
The game is started with a pass from centre. There is a time limit of 4 seconds carry on the ball and it is a non-contact game. Games consist of 4 x 10 min quarters with 2 min breaks.
